The Early Years
Paula began her career in the golf business as a caddie at a local golf course in
Westchester County NY. Paula played on her high school golf team and she
received a golf scholarship to Palm Beach Jr. College in Florida. As a freshman
Paula was the National Junior College Champion and runner-up as a
sophomore. Paula went on to play for Florida State University and soon after
started competing in mini-tour events. After 5 years on the mini-tour, she turned
her sights to teaching the game of golf.
Today
Paula is a diverse and accomplished individual offering an established track
record in all aspects of a golf professional. She has been a class A member of
the PGA of America for 14 years. Paula is a dedicated instructor, responsive to all
performance levels from juniors to seniors and enjoys all teaching environments;
private, clinic, and group settings. Paula is currently a Teaching Professional at
the Fishkill Golf Course in Fishkill, NY. Prior to joining Fishkill, she held the
position of Director of Instruction at Centennial Golf Club. Paula also worked at
various country clubs in Westchester County, NY and in Florida.
During the off-season Paula keeps active by working with various after school
golf programs for juniors in Westchester and Fairfield counties.
As an instructor, Paula's teaching philosophy is this; keep it simple, focused and
goal oriented. Not all golfers have the same learning styles or physical abilities,
nor do they learn at the same pace. No two students are alike. Paula begins all
lessons by watching and listening to the student and helping them identify their
goals in all areas of the game, from full swing and short game. Once the goal(s)
are identified the process of building a sound swing based on the fundamentals
and student's ability begins. "Building a golf swing is like building a house, one
brick at a time." As a house is built on a strong foundation, a swing is built on
sound fundamentals; grip, aim, stance, posture, alignment, ball position, and
pivot action. Once you understand the essential swing fundamentals, you will
better understand the game/swing and will use them continuously to improve
your game.
